The fourth issue of A Profound Waste of Time, an award-winning independent magazine that celebrates games as an art form.
Beautifully designed and filled with stunning, bespoke imagery, this issue features an extensive interview with members of the Portal 2 team, SILENT HILL creator Keiichirō Toyama, Dotemu, and many more, with cover art by Molly Mendoza.
I've never read a games magazine that treats the subject like a proper art book before, and the bespoke imagery in this issue is just gorgeous to flip through. The long-form essays actually gave me a new way to think about games I've played for years.
The paper stock is genuinely thick, the kind that makes you slow down and actually read instead of skimming. As someone who mostly reads games writing online, having these essays in a physical object with bespoke art on nearly every spread feels like a completely different experience.
I was blown away by the layout and how each article weaves game analysis into visual storytelling. The feature on procedural generation alone is worth the cover price.
