The Horror: MANSION

The dust caked carpets and candle smoke stains on the walls made the whole house feel alive in the worst way. I kept looking over my shoulder during the long corridor scenes even though I was home alone with the lights on.

I read this in two sittings and had to keep the hallway light on for the second one. The long corridors and creaky floors do all the work before anything even happens, which is exactly the kind of slow dread I wanted from a haunted house book.

The dust caked carpets and candle smoke stains are described so vividly I could practically smell them. Creaky floors and long corridors made me feel like I was actually walking through that house. Perfect for a spooky evening read.
